November 2007

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

The month of November provided lots of Opportunities to give thanks.

The Hurricane season in the Carribbean ended November 30th, but not soon enough for those effected by the turrential downpour and high winds of the tropical storm Noel.

It was hard for the team from Discovery Church in California to wait the storm out in the Dorm, but as soon as the rain eased up they were off and running and finished the week off having done everything they had set out to do. They canceled their trip to the beach so that they could keep ministering in Hato del Yaque and encourage Pastor Aristides and his family.

Discovery Church partners with Hato del Yaque where GO is constructing a church/nutrition center/dormitory that will feed at least 120 children daily as well as teams housed as you all come to the Domincan for short-term mission adventures.

After the tropical storm the water dried up pretty quickly up north in Santiago, which is where I live. But in the south, in the Batey's where there is only flat agricultural land, it began to look like God may have forgotten his promise to Noah about not destroying the earth with a flood ever again.

But God didn't forget his promise

Back in Santiago, the Church announced that they were taking donations of food and clothes to the Bateys. This is a community that is usually on the recieving end of the donations that come through GO. When the opportunity came for them to give to those in greater need than themselves they didn't hesitate.

The church of Cuerpo de Cristo in Santiago gave enough clothes and food to fill two vans.

I was fortunate enough to join the caravan to Batey Nueve to deliver the supplies.

Pastor William of Batey Nueve told us of the experience in the storm. He was able to house 153 women and children in the GO dormitory. Instead of just feeding the children enrolled in the nutrition program, he fed the whole community.

The graciousness and determination of the people I am blessed to work with is sometimes overwhelming.

I am so Thankful for God and his faithfulness and for the family of God that is growing ever closer.

"...You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed."

~Joshua 23:14

Thanks!
